Type Locality and Naming
The group was named by the Compiling Group of the Regional Stratigraphical Scale, Gansu Province in 1980. The type section is situated at Ulanbulag, southwest of Shagoushan Mt. in Ejin Banner (County), the Nei Mongol Zizhiqu. The name of this formation is tentatively retained herein. It had been abandoned by the Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources of Gansu Province in 1997, who considered it is a synonym of Heijianshan Fm.

Lithology and Thickness
The group consists of light gray, dark gray tuffaceous sandstone, intermediate-acidic tuff and tuffaceous lava, with minor lenses of limestone and siliceous rock at the top. The group is only exposed at the type section locality with controlled thickness over 1909 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
The lower and upper boundaries are still unclear. Regionally, the next older unit is the Baiyunobo Fm of late Ordovician.
Upper contact
The lower and upper boundaries are still unclear. Regionally, the next younger unit is the volcanics of the Gongpoquan Gr of middle Silurian.
Regional extent
The group is only exposed at the type section locality in Ejin Banner (County), the Nei Mongol Zizhiqu.

Fossils
The slate and siliceous rock yield graptolites Petalolithus elongatus, P. tenuis, Streptogratus cf. runcinatus, Pristiograptus initialis, Monograptus priodon, M. marri, Monoclimacis linnarssoni, Demirastrites, Glyptograptus, Retiolites cf. geinitzianus, etc.
